AMERICAN TRIPPS
American Tripps is a Berlin-style ping pong party in San Francisco (and sometimes elsewhere) that takes place a few times a month at various locations. Here's what's coming up:
- Singin' & Pingin' at Verdi Club - Saturday, June 29, 2013
- Fifth of July party at Rickshaw Stop - Friday, July 5, 2013
- Party in the Lower Haight - Friday, July 12, 2013
Here's some critical praise:
- "Berlin-style ping-pong, a definition: beer in one hand, paddle in the other, getting to know your fellow competitors, bonding." - UrbanDaddy
- "It is, in a word, spectacular. Loads of festive folks walk around a ping pong table and hit the ball, with those who fuck up the volley pulled from the round, until a winner is crowned." - SFist
- "One of the great things about Berlin-style ping-pong is how social it is. You find yourself next to strangers in the circle, and you have this common sports drama to bond over. Somebody makes a wild shot, and you’re all cheering and exchanging critiques together. You recognize players of similar skill levels to your own, and you root for them. Pretty soon you're friends." - The Bold Italic
- "Well, you start with the traditional game, add 18 more people, a drink in your hand, a rapidly moving counter-clockwise rotation after each paddle hit, and an elimination of whoever misses, then finish with a final best 2-out-of-3 once the game is down to the last two players." - Thrillist
- "Those who attend are young and old, internet techies and librarians, unemployed couch surfers and CEOs. Everyone communes over the pong." - Deadspin
